When it comes to Monty Python movies, everyone thinks of the Holy Grail. In my opinion though, THIS is the best movie the Monty Python ever made! One of my all-time favorite comedies. And surprise, surprise, there’s some social commentary to be found again. I guess it really is a pattern with me.
The commentary in this one is on religion, as this movie follows an unwilling and clueless messiah finding himself in situations out of his control. Beyond the jokes about society and what people will believe just because they want to, there’s also plenty of good jokes and funny situations that are just there because they are genuinely funny and well thought of. I honestly think they don’t make comedies like this anymore. The jokes in movies these days are all rinse-and-repeat, where people in the audience laugh the most at the jokes they already saw in the trailer before seeing the movie itself because they feel comfortable with the familiar. Pay attention next time you go watch a comedy at the movies, you’ll see. No, this movie is ORIGINAL. It works hard to find funny jokes and situations, and it’s just as quotable as its more popular holy grail-centric counterpart. It has more spirit and genuinely brilliant situations in every single scene than most full-length comedies do these days during their whole duration.
Highly recommended if you want to have many genuine laughs!
