I have a different view of eComics and reading comics online in general… I think that it will attract the casual reader more, but the hardcore comic fans will still buy the ‘real deal’. If anything, possible lower prices on eComics will make some readers try out titles in electronic format that they wouldn’t have put money on otherwise and therefore expand the list of comics they read. They might have a normal pull list and then the titles they read electronically. And it might help keep variety in comics because it will be easier for companies to give titles a chance that they wouldn’t otherwise get. How many titles are getting cancelled after a year or so these days? The electronic format would make such economically unsure titles more viable, because there’d be no printing and shipping costs attached to them.
In other words, I don’t see eComics as competing with the physical comics in the marketplace, but more like reaching out to more people.
