I saw the latest episode of ‘How I Met your Mother’ earlier… I have to say that I’m torn, some scenes made me feel like the show was regaining its old charm, while others made me think maybe it was time for it to end.
I knew that Kevin wasn’t going to stay on the show forever even though I really liked that character, and I expected the break-up to feel really forced. As it turns out, I think they did a great job with that break-up, it felt very realistic and down to earth.
For the funny, we have Barney and Ted riding the titular ‘Drunk Train’. It was exaggerated but not to the point of breaking the suspension of disbelief too much, which the show has been guilty of a few times in the past. I honestly loved how Ted realizes that they need to ‘Get Drunk’.
Barney’s new love interest has a lot of potential, I just hope the writers make the most of it and don’t fall into too many cliches. I find it interesting that her stripper name happens to be ‘Kharma’. Think about it, if it’s time for Barney to collect on his kharma, it implies maybe this time around he’ll be hurt by a woman for once, instead of having it be the other way around. No, I don’t think his origin or what happened with Robin not so long ago really count, not after all the damage he’s caused with women, from which he doesn’t seem to have learned anything at all. Don’t get me wrong, I like that Barney is flawed, it makes him extremely entertaining. But since the writers of the show seem to want to keep doing emotional stories for him, they might as well do them right.
As for that last scene with Ted and Robin, it made me roll my eyes. Talk about beating a dead horse. The writers really need to give him some character development at this point.
